This lantern was made using salvaged materials. The lantern itself is salvaged and has been modified and painted. Inside each of the lanterns windows intricate natural patterns shine through panels that are made up of leftover rock from counter top surfaces. Each panel is different and held together using stain glass methods. The light from the lantern shines through cross polarized light, just as the Geologist would view the minerals beneath the microscope.

The lantern itself is a salvaged piece that has been modified and painted, Each window is illuminated with cross polarized light, the same trick a geologist would use to identify minerals under the microscope. Inside each of the 6 windows you will find thin sheets of actual Mica, Mica minerals are monoclinic and when the rock sample breaks it separates into thin sheets. Micas are a group of minerals that include biotite and muscovite.
